3-Cheese Bison Burger

Pairs well with:

Zinfandel

Bright and full-bodied, this Zinfandel wine is a curious contradiction in tastes.

Ingredients

6 cloves garlic
1/4 tsp olive oil
1 Tbsp butter (not margarine)
1 8 oz package cream cheese
8 Tbsp chopped green olives
4 tsp finely chopped black olives
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp Lawry’s garlic salt (coarse ground with parsley)
1 medium sized bag of ice
1/4 lb ground bison meat
1 package ground beef (81% lean), approximately 1.70 lbs or more
3 tsp seasoning salt (Lawry’s or McCormick brands preferred)
1-1/2 tsp coarse ground black pepper
6 slices muenster cheese
1-1/2 cups Kraft natural shredded sharp chedder cheese
1 pkg store-brand hamburger buns
1-1/2 tsp butter (not margarine)

Instructions

At home I use a Uniflame 3-Burner gas grill. Preheat grill to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut ends off each clove of garlic and peel away skin. Place garlic on a sheet of aluminum foil and sprinkle olive oil over the top. Scrunch foil around garlic and place on top grill burner for approximately 3 minutes, until garlic is soft. While garlic is cooking, leave butter out in sun to soften.
Remove garlic from grill and let sit while you work on the cream cheese mixture. Mix together cream cheese and 1 Tbsp softened butter with a fork until well blended inside a plastic bowl. Using a garlic press, press garlic into mixture and mix well. Chop green and black olives and add to cream cheese mixture and mix. Add salt and garlic salt and mix well. Put lit on plastic bowl and keep cold in an ice chest.
In a large bowl, combine bison and ground beef with your hands until well mixed (to save on a mess use plastic gloves). Add seasoning salt and black pepper and mix well.
Divide meat mixture into six equal portions. Using a hamburger press, place divided meat into press to form burger patties. After complete, place burgers on 400 degree Fahrenheit grill.and cook for 4 minutes on each side. Place burger on top rack and add a slice of muenster cheese to each burger. Put 1/4 cup sharp chedder cheese on top of that and close lid. Cook until cheese is melted, approximately 2 minutes.
Spread 1/4 tsp butter on six buns and then place buns butter side down on grill for approximately 1 minute, until buttered side of bun is crisp but not burnt.
Lay hamburger patties on buns and top each burger with 2 Tbsp cream cheese mixture. Eat and enjoy!
