5 Spice Asian Burger

Ingredients

  • 2 Pounds ground chicken
  • 2 tablespoon tamari sauce
  • 1 teaspoon hot chili sesame oil
  • 6 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 6 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
  • 2 Teaspoons Chinese 5 spice powder
  • 1 Cup Panko bread crumbs plus 2 tablespoons
  • 6 Sesame Seed Topped Hamburger Buns
  • COLESLAW
  • 1 14 ounce bag shredded cole slaw mix
  • 1/2 Cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons hot chili sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
  • 3 green onions chopped
  • Vegetable oil for the grill

Instructions

  • Prepare Burgers
  • Add a layer of wax paper to a cookie sheet. Sprinkle remaining bread crumbs.
  • Mix
  • the first seven ingredients together (ground chicken, tamari, sesame, and hoisin sauces, garlic, ginger, and Chinese 5 spice powder). Blend well using hands. Add 1 Cup Panko bread crumbs and blend.
  • Form 6 burgers. They will be sticky, but will form first into balls and then flatten into burgers. Place each on the cookie sheet.
  • Grill
  • Heat the grill to low heat. Oil grate using paper towel, tongs, and vegetable oil. Increase the heat to medium.
  • Place each burger on the grill. Cook for 4 minutes, flip, and cook another 4 minutes. Check temperature. If internal temperature is less than 165ˇF, continue to cook 3-4 minutes until temperature if reached. Remove to clean cookie sheet, cover with tented tin foil.
  • Lightly grill buns placing tops and bottoms face down on rack. Toast about 1 1/2 minutes each
  • Plate
  • To each bun bottom, place one burger. Top with 3 tablespoons coleslaw and the bun top.
