Babe the Blue Burger

Blueberry Lemon Mayonnaise:
1/4 cup Maine blueberry jam
3/4 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon lemon zest Caramelized Blueberry Onions
2-tablespoons butter
1 large Vidalia onion
¼ cup fresh Maine blueberries
1-½ pounds ground chuck
2 tablespoons red onion
½ cup pureed Maine blueberries
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
½ teaspoon ground cumin
1-teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Vegetable oil for brushing on grill rack
Six ounces blue cheese
Six sour dough rolls, split Oil to brush on rolls



Directions Preheat gas grill to medium-high heat To make the blueberry mayonnaise, combine the blueberry jam, mayonnaise and lemon zest and refrigerate until burgers are done. To make the caramelized onions, melt butter in a 10-inch non-stick, fireproof skillet on grill. When butter is melted, add onions and blueberries cover with lid. Cook the onion mixture for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally until the onions are caramelized and most of the liquid is evaporated. Move to cooler part of grill and keep warm. To make the patties, combine ground chuck, onion, blueberries, cinnamon, nutmeg, cumin, salt and pepper. Mix meat well without over mixing. Divide mixture into six equal portions and shape into patties. When grill is preheated, brush with oil to prevent sticking. Place patties on grill, cover and cook, turning once, until done to preference, 5 to 7 minutes on each side for medium. When burgers are nearly done, brush buns with oil and place cut side down on grill to lightly toast. To assemble burgers, cover bottom bun with eaqual amounts of caramelized blueberry onions. Place burger on top of caramelized onions, place 1 ounce bleu cheese on top of each burger, spread bun tops with blueberry lemon mayonnaise place on top of burger and serve. Makes 6 burgers.
