Cajun Burger

Pairs well with:

White Zinfandel

With strawberry and melon essences, this American original is perfectly at home with however you like to unwind.

Born and raised in Louisiana, I try and keep some of my hertiage in my cooking.

Ingredients:

1 1/2# Lean Ground Round
2 Tbl Hot Sauce
1/4 Cup Minced Onion
1/2 Cup Pre Cooked White Rice
2 Cloves Garlic Minced
Vegetable Oil Spray for Grill Rack
6 Round Sandwich Rolls – Split
1 Cup Fresh or Frozen Okra – Sliced
1/2 Cup Canned Diced Tomatoes with Chilies – Drained
1 Tsp Salt
1 Tbl Hot Sauce
6 Slices Provolone Cheese
3 Tbl Butter – Softened

Instructions:

Prepare a medium-hot fire in a charcoal grill with cover, or preheat gas or electric grill to medium-high.

In a large bowl combine the ground round, hot sauce, onion, rice, and garlic, mix well. Divide the mixture into six patties.

When the grill is hot, spray the rack with vegetable spray. Place the patties on the rack, cover and cook, turning once, until done, about 5 minutes on each side for medium, less for rare, and longer for well done.

While the patties are cooking, combine in a sauce pan the okra tomatoes, salt and hot sauce. Cook over medium heat for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside. Also spread the cut side of the rolls with the butter toast lightly on grill.

To assemble the burgers, place a patty, and lettuce leaf and a generous spoonful of the okra tomatoes mixture and a slice of cheese between each prepared roll.

Makes 6 burgers.
