Dad’s “Cab-burgers”

Ingredients

2 lbs. 85% lean ground beef
1/2 cup Sutter Home Cabernet Sauvignon
2 eggs (slightly beaten)
1/2 cup bread crumbs(Italian or plain)
1 tsp. oregano
1 tsp. basil
1 tsp. salt (or to taste)
6 thin slices of Vidalia or red onion
6 thin slices of mozarella cheese
GLAZE:
1/2 cup Sutter Home Cabernet Sauvignon
4 – 5 minced garlic cloves
1/2 cup dark molasses
Toasted hamburger buns

 

Instructions

Gently mix together the ground beef, 1/2 cup Cabernet Sauvignon wine, eggs, bread crumbs, oregano, basil, and salt. Shape into 12 thin patties. On 6 of the patties place 6 thin slices of onion and top with 6 slices mozarella cheese. Cover these 6 patties with the other prepared 6 patties then pinch the edges together to seal. Chill at least 1 – 2 hours (or freeze completely, as they can be cooked frozen.) Grill 10 min. on each side (a few minutes more if they are frozen), or until the patties are done, brushing often with the glaze. Be sure to use it all up! Serve on toasted rolls. Grill approx. 10 minutes on each side, brushing often with the GALZE.
