Devilishly Good Burgers with a Kiss of Brown Sugar Sauce

Pairs well with:

White Merlot

Imagine sipping a lighter Merlot. This fresh, pale-pink wine is a nice change from traditional red or white wines.


2/3 cup dry whole wheat bread crumbs
¾ cup skim milk
½ cup chopped onion
½ cup chopped marinated roasted red peppers
2 tablespoons soy sauce
½ teaspoon each garlic salt and garlic pepper
2 pounds ground sirloin
½ cup medium salsa
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon honey
1/3 cup medium salsa
Whole Wheat Burger Buns
Red leaf lettuce



In medium size bowl, soak bread crumbs in milk for 5 minutes. Add eggs, onions, red peppers, soy sauce, salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly. Add meat and ½ cup salsa. Mix until meat is mixed with all other burger ingredients. Shape into 6 patties and cook over hot coals until no longer pink. Meanwhile make Brown Sugar Sauce by combining brown sugar, honey, 1/3 cup salsa When burgers are done place on lettuce toped bun and spread small amount of brown sugar sauce over each one. Makes 6 burgers
