Gorgonzola Long Burger

Pairs well with:

Gewurztraminer

Hard to pronounce yet easy to drink, this wine combines lychee fruit and white peach flavors with a hint of spice.

While growing up in the Pacific Northwest, my family always enjoyed stopping at local “hamburger joints’ for a quick meal. Several of these served a “long burger” a rectangular hamburger served on a rectangular bun. It was a great treat to eat that strange shaped hamburger.Adding the flavors of Gorgonzola cheese, avocado, mushrooms, and sweet onions to the long burger has allowed me to enjoy memories of my youth and the adventure of new and different tastes to a family tradition.

Olive oil, for brushing on the grill rack

Preheat a propane gas grill to medium high, lightly oil the grill rack. Grill patties over medium-high heat, about 6 minutes per side for medium-well. turning once. Be careful not to press the burgers as they cook or they will split open and the cheese will ooze out.
Hollow out the top and bottom of the hoagie roll. Place rolls on the grill for about 2 minutes or until lightly toasted. Remove from grill; add avocado spread to both sides of hoagie roll. Place a patty on the bottom of a hoagie roll, add the mushrooms and onions to the top half of the roll.
Plut both sides together and serve.
