Greek Burger with Tzatziki Sauce

Ingredients

Tzatziki sauce:
1 cup plain yogurt (may substitute sour cream)
1/4 cup peeled and finely diced seedless cucumber
2 Tbsp chopped fresh dill
3 cloves garlic minced,divided
1 1/4 cup crumbled feta, divided
1 Tbsp chopped fresh parsley
1/2 tsp salt

2 lbs. ground lamb
1 1/2 tsp dried oregano
3/4 tsp allspice
salt and pepper
tomato slices
chopped lettuce
sliced onions
6 pita pockets at least 6 inches across

 

Instructions

To make Tzatziki sauce: Combine yogurt, cucumber, 1 clove minced garlic, 1/4 cup feta, parsley and 1/2 tsp salt into a bowl and set aside.

Mix together lamb, 2 tbsp minced garlic, 1cup feta, oregano, and allspice and divide into 6 patties approximately 3/4 inch thick. Make a 1/4 inch indent in center of each burger. Lightly salt and pepper each burger.

Preheat gas grill on high (500 degrees). Cook burger for 5 minutes with the lid closed. Turn and cook 4-5 minutes more with the lid closed, until meat is desired doneness, 160 degrees for medium, 170 degrees for well done. Place each burger in pita pocket, add Tzatziki sauce, tomato slices, lettuce, and onion.
