Get cozy and get pouring. Our Merlot is the wine for long weekends and lengthy chats.

Olive Wine Sauce
1 green bell pepper, diced
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
3 tablespoons butter
¼ cup olives
1 cup Sutter Home Merlot
½ cup beef broth
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 tablespoon cornstarch
The sauce will be used on the toasted bread and on top of the burger.
1 egg slightly beaten
2 pounds ground sirloin
¾ cup bread crumbs
½ cup olives, chopped
1 small tomato, chopped
½ teaspoon seasoned salt
1 Tablespoon Italian Seasoning

Directions Preheat a charcoal grill with a cover to a medium hot fire or medium high in a gas grill. To make the olive wine sauce, place a 1½ quart saucepan on the grill or side burner and sauté the green pepper, onion and garlic in butter for 5 minutes. Add olives, wine, beef broth and tomato paste. Reduce the heat and simmer for 20 minutes. Dissolve cornstarch in 2 tablespoons water and add to mixture to thicken. Set saucepan off grill. To make the patties, combine the egg, sirloin, bread crumbs, olives, tomato, seasoned salt, and Italian seasoning in a large bowl. Mix well, but handle as little as possible to avoid compacting the meat. Divide the meat mixture into 6 equal portions and form into patties to fit onto the 6 portions of French bread. Brush the rack with vegetable oil. Turn the grill to high to sear the burgers and seal in the juices. Place the patties on the rack, cover and cook, turning once, about 5 minutes on each side for medium and 7 minutes for well done. During the final 4 minutes of grilling, place the saucepan back on the grill to heat, stirring occasionally. Place the 6 portions of French bread, which have been sliced and brushed with olive oil, on the grill with the cut side on the grill to toast until crusty and golden brown. Take the bread off the grill. Pour the Olive Wine Sauce on the bottom side of the bread. Place a hamburger patty on the bread and pour additional sauce on the top of the burger. Place the other half of the French bread on the top of the burger and serve.
