This rich red easily complements your homemade chicken dishes, red meats, game, and mildly seasoned pastas.


1 lb lean ground beef
1/2 t dried oregano
1/2 t garlic powder
1/2 t dried thyme
1/4 t dried basil
1/4 t freshly ground black pepper
1/4 t salt
(4) thick mozzarella cheese slices
(1) head Romaine lettuce
(1) red onion
(2) plum tomatoes
(1) loaf focaccia or italian flatbread
(2) T olive oil



In a large bowl mix together ground beef and all the seasonings until well incorporated. Form (4) equal patties with the seasoned beef and grilled until desired doneness. Add cheese slices to each burger a minute or so prior to removing from grill. While burgers are cooking, slice focaccia bread according to burger size and lightly brush the inside with olive oil and grill until lightly browned. Prepare vegetables for topping burgers. Dress each burger on focaccia with lettuce, tomato and onion or according to taste.
