Italian Moussaka Burgers
I love trying new dishes and comfort foods are my favorite dishes.Moussaka burgers combine several comfort foods into a single meal.
Ingredients:
GRILLED POTATOES
2 large baking potatoes, peeled & sliced ¼” thick
2 tablespoon olive oil
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
HAMBURGER PATTIES
2 pounds extra lean ground beef
1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
6 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon salt
1-1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
¾ teaspoon allspice
¾ teaspoon oregano
1 (8oz) can tomato sauce
CHEESE SAUCE
16 ounces Mascarpone cheese
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
3 tablespoon fresh Italian parsley, finely chopped
6 tablespoon freshly grated parmesan cheese
6 hamburger buns
Instructions:
Prepare potatoes. Mix the olive oil, salt and pepper in a shallow dish. Coat potato slices with olive oil mixture. Set aside.
Prepare moussaka patties. Mix all ingredients in a large bowl. Form the mixture into 6 equal patties, making a small indent in the center of each patty. Refrigerate until ready to grill.
To make the cheese sauce, mix all ingredients together in a ceramic bowl or other container that can safely be heated on the grill rack. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
Cook the potato slices and hamburger patties at the same time. Brush the grill rack with vegetable oil. Place patties and potatoes on the grill rack. Cover, and cook, turning once, until done. Cook potatoes approximately 5 minutes each side. Cook the patties approximately 6-7 minutes each side for medium-well.
During the last 2-3 minutes of cooking, place the container with the cheese sauce on the grill rack and heat slightly to soften.
Remove potatoes, cheese sauce and patties from grill.
To assemble, spread the cheese sauce equally among the hamburger buns. Place a hamburger patty on top of the bottom bun. Top with 4 potato slices then the top bun. Serve immediately.
