Italian Sausage and Pepper Burger

1 lb ground mild italian sausage (to make 4 burgers);
4 hamburger buns;
1 onion, chopped;
1 tablespoon crushed garlic;
1 tablespoon crushed or fresh basil;
1 tablespoon crushed oregano;
1 tablespoon sugar;
1 tablespoon olive oil;
1 1-lb 13-oz can of Mancini sweet roasted peppers, drained and cut into pieces;
1 28-oz can of diced tomatoes;
1 teaspoon salt;
1 teaspoon pepper.



In a frying pan placed on a grill on medium heat, add olive oil and onions. Saute until translucent. Add unstrained can of tomatoes, garlic, basil, oregano, and sugar. Simmer about 45 minutes or until thickened and almost no moisture remains. Add drained and cut roasted peppers to tomato mixture to heat. Place four italian sausage patties on the grill and cook until well done. Grill four hamburger patties until lightly toasted. Place sausage on each hamburger bun, top with tomato and pepper mixture. Leftover tomato and pepper mixture can be frozen.
