Mediterranean Garlic Burgers

Pairs well with:

Zinfandel

Bright and full-bodied, this Zinfandel wine is a curious contradiction in tastes.

Ingredients

1 ¾ pd. Ground chuck
2 tablespoons ready to use minced garlic
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
6 teaspoons chopped kalamato olives (approx. 12 olives)
6 teaspoons gorgonzola cheese
6 tomato slices
6 hamburger buns

Instructions

Preheat a gas grill to medium-high, or prepare a medium-hot fire in a charcoal grill with a cover. Slice tomatoes and chop olives. Set aside. To make patties, in a large bowl, combine garlic, basil, oregano and worchestershire sauce. Mix thoroughly with spoon. Divide mixture into 6 equal portions and flatten into patties. When grill is ready, brush the grill rack with vegetable oil. Place the patties on the rack, cover, and cook approximately 4-6 minutes on each side. During the last few minutes of cooking, place bread on the outer edges of the rack to toast lightly. To assemble burgers, place bottom half of bun on plate top with 1 slice of tomato, patty, 1 tsp. chopped olives, 1 tsp. gorgonzola cheese, top half of bun. Enjoy! Makes 6 burgers.
