Miami’s Mojo Burger

Ingredients

BURGER:

31/4 cups ground beef (about 1 1/2 lbs)

1/2 chopped onion

1 Tablespoons chopped cilantro

1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 fresh jalapeno pepper seeded and chopped

1/2 cup mashed avocado (about 1 medium avocado)

2 Tablespoons cooking oil for oiling grill

6 large Hamburger buns

6 leaves red-leaf lettuce

MOJO SAUCE:

1/2 cup olive oil

6 cloves garlic, minced

1/2 teaspoon cumin

1 teaspoon oregano

1 Tablespoon Ketchup

1/4 cup Merlot wine

1/2 cup orange juice

1/2 cup lime juice

 

Instructions

Burger Instructions:

Combine first seven ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Mix until well blended then gently fold in avocado.

Divide beef mixture into 6 patties,1/2-inch thick.

Heat Grill to medium-high temperature then lightly oil grill.

Cook patties for 4 to 5 minutes on each side or until meat reaches 165 degree temperature in center of patty.

During last minute of cooking on each side, generously brush Mojo sauce across each burger.

Open Hamburger buns and place lettuce leaf on bottom of each bun. Place one cooked burger patty on each lettuce leaf. Top with top of bun and serve.

INSTRUCTIONS for MOJO:

In a heavy flat bottom pan, mix olive oil and minced garlic. Place pan on medium hot grill and let cook for about a minute or until garlic just begins to change colors. Stir in cumin, oregano, ketchup, salt, pepper and wine and simmer 4- 5 minutes. Blend orange juice with lime juice and stir into garlic mixture and bring to slight boil then set pan aside while burgers are cooking until it is time to brush burgers with sauce during last of grilling..
