Ingredients

1 1/2 cup self-rising corn meal
1/2 t. soda
1/2 t. salt
1/2 t. sugar
3 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup milk
3 jalapeno peppers, seeded & chopped
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 t. garlic powder
1/3 cup bacon drippiongs
1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
1 cup fresh bread crumbs
1 onion finely chopped
1 egg
1 t. salt
1 1/2 t. pepper
2 cans hunts tomato sauce
3 T. red wine vinegar
3 T. brown sugar
2 T. prepared mustard
2 T. (lea & perrins) worcestershire sauce
1 bottle Kraft original BBQ sauce

 

Instructions

Bun Cooking Directions:
Add the first 9 ingredients together, stir until the consistency of cornbread batter. Place a metal cookie sheet (no coating on face) on grill set to high. Pour bacon drippings to thinly coat surface. Pour batter into pancake/bun size circles or into metal “egg molds/rings”. When bubbles start to form, flip to other side. Remove from sheet. Repeat process till enough “buns” are made for 6 burgers. Set aside until burgers are done.

Burger Cooking Directions:
Mix together beef, bread crumbs, onion, egg, salt, pepper, ½ can tomato sauce, and form into burgers. Place on grill at medium heat cook for 5 – 6 minutes on each side.

Sauce Cooking Directions:
Mix remainder of ingredients simmer for a few minutes over flame, then use to baste burgers. After placing burger on “bun” add chopped pimento & applewood cheese to garnish burger.

Cooking time: 30 minutes
Total meal completion time: 120 minutes
Grill set to medium or lower end of high heat at all times
