Nuts to You Burger

2.5 pounds ground round
2 eggs
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup ketsup
1/4 cup smoked almonds
1 package onion soup mix
Pinch of red pepper flakes
12 slices of whole wheat bread buttered
1 large yellow onion sliced
Vegetable oil



Place ground round in a bowl. Add the eggs, ketchup, onion soup mix, pinch of red pepper flakes and rolled oats and gently mix together. In a food processor (or coffee bean grinder) grind up the smoked almonds into a coarse chop. Mix the nuts into the meat mixture. Form into 6 ounce patties and place on grill. Cook until burger has achieved desired doneness (approximately 5-6 minutes/side) While burgers are cooking put a cast iron frying pan on the grill, coat bottom with vegetable oil and put in the sliced onions and sweat until translucent. When burgers are done put the burger on a slice of bread (butter on the outside)and then place some of the onions on top of the burger. Put the other slice of bread on (butter side out) then place into a preheated cast iron frying pan and grill bread until golden brown.
