Ingredients

2 medium yellow onions
4 T. butter
1/2 c. Worcestershire sauce – divided – 1/4 f/meat mixture, 1/4 f/onion slices
2-1/2 t. salt – divided – 1-1/2 t. for meat mixture, 1/2 t. for onion slices, 1/2 t. for tomatoes
1/2 t. pepper – divided – 1/4 t. for meat mixture, 1.4 t. for onion slices
vegetable oil for grill
1 t. sugar
1 large (or 2 small) clove garlic
2 lbs. ground chuck
7 sesame seed hamburger buns
6 oz. crumbled blue cheese
12 t. mayonnaise
2 beef steak tomatoes

Instructions

Slice the two onions into 3/8" slices. Place onto the onion slices thin pats of butter about 1/8" thick), drizzle with 1/4 c. of the worcestershire sauce, and sprinkle with 1/4-1/2 t. salt and 1/8 t. pepper. Brush the grill rack with vegetable oil. Place 3-4 of these onion slices onto the grill and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side. Immediately remove from grill and chop into small pieces and let cool for a few minutes. Mix 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce with 1-1/2 t. salt, 1/4 t. pepper, 1 t. sugar, 1 large (or 2 small) crushed and minced garlic cloves, and set aside. Place ground chuck into large bowl for mixing. Chop one hamburger bun (scrape the sesame seeds off this one first) into small pieces (about 1/4" square). To the ground chuck add the chopped hamburger bun, the liquid mixture, and 3 T. of the chopped, grilled onions. Mix together and form into 6 hamburger patties. Grill the hamburger patties for a total of 16 minutes — 8 minutes on each side. After the meat patties have grilled for 8 minutes, flip them. At this time the remaining onions should be added to the grill and cooked for 3 minutes on each side. At the last 3 minutes cooking the patties, add the crumbled blue cheese (1 oz. per patty). Allow to cook for 3 minutes longer, then remove from grill. When the onions have finished cooking, remove from the grill to a chopping board. At this time open the hamburger buns and place on grill for 2 minutes until lightly toasted. While toasting the buns, chop the remaining onions into small pieces to form an onion relish. Also slice tomatoes into 1/4 slices and season with remaining salt and pepper, and set aside. Remove buns from grill. Spread toasted buns with mayonnaise. Top the bottom portion of each bun with a meat patty, top with onion relish and a slice of fresh tomato. Place the top portion of the bun onto the burger creation and enjoy.
