Saucy Sausage Burgers

Pairs well with:

Zinfandel

Bright and full-bodied, this Zinfandel wine is a curious contradiction in tastes.

Ingredients

1 egg
1 cup fine soft bread crumbs
1/4 cup milk
1 3/4 lbs. 85% lean ground beef
1/2 lb. spicy bulk pork sausage
1/4 cup oil for oiling grill grates
6 large Kaiser buns, split
6 slices Muenster cheese

Instructions

Beat egg in small bowl. In large mixing bowl, stir together bread crumbs and milk until the bread is fully absorbed. To bread mixture, add beaten egg, ground beef and sausage and mix gently. Divide mixture into 6 parts, forming a slight depression in the center of each so that they will be flat when cooked. Cover with waxed paper and chill in refrigerator. Meanwhile, oil grill grates and preheat grill. Cook burgers on preheated gas grill according to grill instructions (side burners on medium, center burner off, lid down). Turning patties over half-way through, grill 10 minutes, or according to preference. To warm buns, stack halves on top of burgers during last 2 minutes of grilling. Combine burgers, including the cheese slices, and serve. Serves 6.
