Stuffed blue cheeseburger with Merlot infused barbeque sauce

I love blue cheese and beef.Merlot infused barbeque sauce which is slightly sweet is a great compliment to the savory burger presentation. I also use caramelized onions and fresh basil in the presentation.


Beef – 3 lbs

Blue Cheese – 1/2 lb

2 eggs

1 oz Merlot wine

1/2 cup of fresh basil

1 large white onion

1/2 cup ketchup

1/4 cup mustard

4 teaspoons honey

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

1/2 teaspoon of sea salt

1/3 cup virgin olive oil

1/3 cup of reduced Merlot wine

6 large hamburger buns


Prepare grill to 350 (charcoal)

Combine beef, eggs, salt & pepper and 1 oz Merlot. Split mixture in half and make burger. Stuff with a generous portion of blue cheese and then put the other half over the bottom half and seal the sides with fingers.

Form into 9 oz burger, not too tightly packed. Grill on direct heat for 6 minutes on each side and then indirect heat until temperature reaches 140 degrees.

Grill buns with olive oil and place burger on bun then place caramelized onion and fresh basil with a small side of the barbeque sauce. Serve with a glass of Sutter Home Merlot
