Ingredients

2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 sweet onion, minced
2 tablespoons ground cumin
1 tablespoon chili powder
2 tablespoons yellow mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 clove garlic, minced
1 cup tomato sauce
2 pounds ground sirloin
6 slices American cheese
6 Kaiser rolls, cut in half

Instructions

In a grill with a cover, prepare a medium-hot fire for direct-heat cooking. Drizzle olive oil in medium-sized skillet over medium-high heat for 1 minute. Add onion, reduce heat to medium and cook for 5 minutes. Add next 6 ingredients and simmer slowly for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally; set aside. Divide ground sirloin into 12 patties of equal size making a well with the back of a spoon in 6 of the patties. Divide prepared Coney Island Sauce over the 6 welled patties equally then form 6 remaining patties over each, tucking in any sauce. With the back of a fork, go around each burger to form evenly. Brush prepared grill with oil and place patties on grill. Cover and cook patties 8 to 10 minutes, turning once halfway through. During the last few minutes of cooking, place one piece of American cheese on top of each burger. Place rolls, cut side down, on the outer edges of the grill until lightly toasted. Remove burgers and rolls from grill and enjoy!
