2 pounds ground chuck
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1/2 cup chopped fresh mushrooms
1/2 cup chopped green peppers
1/2 cup chopped red peppers
1/2 cup chopped green onions
3 teaspoons Classic Pizza Seasoning
6 slices pepperoni from the deli
1/4 pound fresh mozzarella,sliced into 6 slices
Pizza Sauce:
1 cup prepared pizza sauce
2 teaspoons Pizza Seasoning
1 clove garlic, minced vegetable oil for brushing the grill
6 slices provolone cheese
2 loaves foccacia bread (rosemary & onion or basil pesto)
1/4 cup garlic spread
1 cup hot bannana pepper rings (in vinegar)
1/4 cup basil pesto

Preheat grill to a medium-high heat. In a large bowl, crumble the ground chuck. Add salt, mushrooms, green peppers, red peppers, green onions, and pizza seasoning. Mix well, handling the meat as little as possible. Divide the mixture into 12 equal portions and form square patties. Place 6 patties on a tray. Top each one with a slice of pepperoni and a slice of the mozzarella cheese. Top each of the 6 patties with another patty and press the edges together to shape. In an ovenproof sauce pan or small skillet, combine the pizza sauce, pizza seasoning, and garlic. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Set aside 1/4 cup to use later to top the burgers and use the remaining for basting. When grill is ready, brush rack with oil. Place patties on the grill rack and brush top with pizza sauce. Cover and cook 5-7 minutes on each side until desired doneness. Baste with pizza sauce when turning. Internal temperature needs to reach 160 degrees. Place a slice of provolone cheese on each burger the last minute of cooking. Cover to melt the cheese. Cut the foccacia bread into square sections the same size as the burgers. Toast bread, open sides down for 30 seconds. Remove burgers to a platter. To assemble the burgers, spread bread bottom with garlic spread and place on serving plate. Add the patty, pepper rings, and then one tablespoon of pizza sauce. Spread a tablespoon of basil pesto on top half of bread and place on the patty. Serve the burger. Makes 6.
