Sweet and Bloody Mary Burgers

Pairs well with:

White Merlot

Imagine sipping a lighter Merlot. This fresh, pale-pink wine is a nice change from traditional red or white wines.

Ingredients

3T Prepared Horseradish
2T Celery Seed
2T Chili Powder
2t Cayenne Powder
1T Kosher Salt
1T Black Pepper
3 Dashes of Worchester Sauce
1 1/2 C V-8 Vegetable Juice
1/2 C + 1C Sutter Home White Merlot
1/3 C Brown Sugar – packed
1 1/2 lbs Ground Beef (I like 85%)
6 Portabella Caps – Stems removed
6 Slices Fresh Mozzarella
6 Slices Fresh Tomatoes
6 Kaiser Rolls
Olive Oil

Instructions

Mix together the Horseradish, Celery Seed, Chili Powder, Cayenne Powder, Salt, Pepper, Worchester Sauce, Vegetable Juice and ½ Cup of the Wine. Add 3/4C of this mixture to the beef reserving the rest in a sauce pan. Mix the sauce and the meat together well until evenly distributed. Meat mixture will be wet. Form into 6 patties and place in refrigerator, until ready to cook. Take the Bloody Mary mixture reserved and add the brown sugar and 1 C of the wine and reduce to half on grill at medium high heat. About 15 minutes. Place burgers on the grill. Brush the portabellas in olive oil and place on grill as well. Cook on grill at medium high heat about 8 minutes on each side until burgers are cooked through and mushrooms are tender. Toast Kaiser Rolls on grill and add 1 slice of Fresh Mozzarella to each burger and cook until slightly melted. Take each burger and dip in sauce and place on bun. Then add a mushroom cap and a slice of fresh tomato. Top with a bit of sauce and Enjoy.
