Tampa Bay Sunshine Burger

Pairs well with:

Merlot

Get cozy and get pouring. Our Merlot is the wine for long weekends and lengthy chats.

The Tampa Bay area is home to the original Cuban Sandwich from Ybor City and the original Greek Salad from Tarpon Springs. I think it’s time for another Tampa Bay origional and I created my burger using fresh from Florida ingredients: beef, citrus, produce, honey and seafood.

Ingredients:

Patties
2 pounds ground sirloin beef
1/4 cup Sutter Home Merlot
1/4 cup Italian bread crumbs
1/4 cup minced sweet Florida onion
1 teaspoon Old Bay Seasoning
1 teaspoon kosher salt
6 hamburger buns
6 shrimp, cooked, peeled and deviened

Sunshine Spread
2 tablespoons Orange Blossom Honey
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard

Orange and Wine Glaze
1/2 cup orange juice
1 teaspoon orange zest
1/4 cup Sutter Home Merlot
1/4 cup Orange Blossom honey

Extras
6 pieces red leaf lettuce, sized for bun
1 Ruskin tomato, or other favorite tomato, sliced thinly

Instructions:

Prepare a medium-hot fire in a charcoal grill.

Prepare the Spread and the Glaze before grilling burgers.

For the spread whisk the honey and mustard together, set aside.

For the glaze, when the grill is hot, combine juice, zest, wine and honey in a one quart saucepand and place on grill. Once mixture begins to boil continue boiling for ten minutes.

For the patties in a large bowl gently combine beef, merlot, bread crumbs, onion, seasoning and salt. Shape into six equal size patties. Make an indention in the cener of each patty and place on the grill. Cook about 4 minutes per side or to the degree of doneness preferred.
Just before the burgers are done toast the cut side of the buns on the grill. Remove the buns and spread the grilled sides with Sunshine Spread.

Place the piece of lettuce on the bottom half of grilled bun, and top with burger then drizzle with glaze and top wtih tomato slice, then shrimp and other half of bun.
