The Italian Stallion

Pairs well with:

Pinot Grigio

You won’t need a bouquet of flowers when you share our Pinot Grigio. This crisp wine with floral aromas is a wonderful way to make an entrance.

Ingredients

2 1/4 lb ground beef
3/4 lb ground Italian sausage
4 TB Italian seasoning (divided)
1 TB kosher salt
1/2 TB ground pepper
1 cup ricotta cheese (divided)
1/2 cup grated pecorino cheese (Parmesan is fine too) (divided)
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
6 slices provolone cheese
Jar of marinara sauce
12 slices Texas toast (find this in the freezer section of the grocery store)

Instructions

Preheat gas grill to low. Preheat toaster oven to 450 degrees for the Texas toast. In large mixing bowl, mix together beef, sausage, 2 TB Italian seasoning, pepper, 1/2 cup of the ricotta cheese, 1/4 cup of the pecorino cheese, and the minced garlic. Split into 6 equal patties and set aside. For the filling of each burger, in another mixing bowl, combine the remaining ricotta cheese (1/2 cup), the remaining pecorino cheese (1/4 cup), the shredded mozzarella cheese, the kosher salt, and the remaining Italian seasoning. To stuff the burger, take one of the original patties and pull it apart forming two equal halves and put 2 TB of the filling on the bottom half of the burger. Close the burger up with the remaining patty. You have formed a burger stuffed with filling. Repeat this 5 more times with the remaining patties. Cook Texas toast in toaster oven. Place the 6 burgers on the preheated grill. Grill approximately 6 minutes on each side, until done. The last 2 minutes of grilling, add a slice of provolone cheese to each burger. When burger is done, dress each burger with 1/8 cup of warm marinara sauce and a sprinkle of pecorino cheese. Put burger on Texas toast, (this is the roll of your burger). Use remaining marinara for dipping, if needed!!! Enjoy!!!!
