The Lord of the Onion Ring Burgers


1/4 cup Grey Poupon classic Dijon
2 tablespoons fresh thyme
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon Tabasco Chipotle Pepper sauce
2 pounds ground chuck
1/4 cup Sutter Home Zinfandel
2 teaspoons garlic salt
1/4 cup Italian bread crumbs
1 tablespoon dried parsley
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
Vegetable oil for brushing grill rack
12 pre-fried onion rings, warmed
6 Kaiser rolls, split, toasted
Young spinach leaves
6 ripe tomato slices
Kettle Chips, Sea salt & Vinegar



In a grill with a cover, prepare a medium hot fire for direct-heat cooking.

For Thyme for Spread, combine Grey Poupon mustard, thyme, mayonnaise, and Tabasco Chipotle Pepper Sauce in a large bowl. Mix well and refrigerate until ready to use.

For burgers, combine beef, Zinfandel, garlic salt, bread crumbs, parsley and pepper. Mix well and shape the mixture into 6 patties.

Brush grill rack with oil. Place beef patties on rack, cover and cook about 4 minutes or until desired doneness. Turn twice. During last 30 seconds, place fried onion rings, and rolls, cut side down on outer edges of grill to toast lightly.

To assemble burger, spread the Thyme for Spread on rolls. On roll bottom, layer spinach leaves, tomato, beef patty, and fried onion rings. Add roll top. Serve at once with Kettle Chips, Sea salt and Vinegar. Makes 6 burgers.
