The Zen Burger

Bright and full-bodied, this Zinfandel wine is a curious contradiction in tastes.

Ingredients

non-stick grill spray.
2.5 lbs of packaged ground turkey (85% lean).
1 egg, beaten.
1/3 cup of soy sauce.
3 cloves of garlic, crushed in a garlic press.
1 medium onion, finely chopped.
1/2 cup of finely chopped white mushrooms.
1/2 cup of finely chopped red bell pepper.
1 teaspoon of ground black pepper.
6 slices of deli sliced monterey pepper jack cheese.
6 kaiser rolls (bread).
1/4 cup of ketchup at room tempature (condiment).
1 red onion, sliced (topping).
2 vine ripe tomatos,sliced (topping).
6 romaine lettuce leaves, washed and dried (topping).
1/4 cup of Dijon mustard at room tempature (condiment)

 

Instructions

Spray grill rack with Pam non-stick grill spray. Place ground turkey into large bowl. Fold the beaten egg into the ground turkey until incorporated. Fold in soy sauce and garlic into the turkey and egg mixture until soy sauce has been absorbed by meat. Fold in finely chopped onion, mushroom, red bell pepper, and ground black pepper, until they are dispersed evenly thorughout the turkey mixture. Preheat gas grill for ten (10) minutes on medium heat with the grill lid closed. Form turkey mixture into six (6)patties and place on the grill when it is thoroughly preheated. Cook each side for nine (9) minutes with the grill lid closed. When the burgers are about thirty (30) seconds away from being completely cooked, add a slice of monterey pepper jack cheese to the top of each burger. Once cheese has melted, remove burgers from grill and place on a plate. Place kaiser rolls on the grill (faces down)for 30-45 seconds, with grill lid closed. Remove kaiser rolls from grill and place on a plate. ASSEMBLING BURGER Spread a thin layer of ketchup on the bottom half of the lightly toasted kaiser roll. Place cooked burger on top of ketchup, cheese side up. Place a slice of red onion on top of burger. Place two slices of tomato on top of the red onion. Rip a leaf of romaine lettuce in half and place both halves on top of the red onion. Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on the top half of the lightly toasted kaiser roll and place on top of the lettuce. Serve immediately. Repeat for the remaining five burgers.
