Wine Inside & Out Burgers w/ Cheese

Bright and full-bodied, this Zinfandel wine is a curious contradiction in tastes.


2 pounds lean ground beef
3 Tablespoons onion, chopped fine
1 Cup Italian bread crumbs
1 Egg
1/4 cup red wine
1/4 teaspoon granulated garlic
salt & pepper to taste
Sauce: 4 Tablespoons finely chopped onions
1 clove garlic finely chopped
1/2 Cup Red wine
1 Cube Butter



Blend together beef,3 Tbsp onion,bread crumbs,egg,wine,granulated garlic,salt & pepper. Shape into 16 patties,waxed paper can be used to press till 1/4 inch thick. Place cheese of choice between 2 patties. Press to seal edges. BBQ, broil, or saute patties. For sauce, saute 4 Tbsp onion and garlic in butter till tender. Add wine. I use this sauce to baste burgers while cooking as well as a sauce when serving.
